Jan Graves presents to the Mohawk Public Relations Program

Our class had the opportunity to meet with Jan Graves of the IABC- Golden Horseshoe Chapter. Graves is currently an executive board member who works in the non profit sector as the Director of Fundraising for the Bruce Trail Conservancy.

The International Association of Business communicators are a professional network of business communicators. Founded in 1970, it currently has over 140,000 communication professionals worldwide. There are currently 100 chapters in over sixty countries. Its members work for Public, Private and non profit sectors. Its head office is currently located in San Francisco, California

Each chapter elects its own volunteer board of directors. All members are given the opportunity to vote. We are very lucky to have two of our professors, as members of the board. Currently Robert Plant is the President and Tim Tuck is in charge of external communications

The association is a great networking opportunity in the communication world. There are various online resources available to members, job postings and Sponsorship Opportunities. They host monthly meetings and host various events like the Gift of Communications, Humbug and the Spring Mix, Munch and Learn. Membership cost around $320 for current members and $365 for new members. You are required to be a communication professional or currently studying in order to become a member.
