Personal to Professional, Mohawk students meet National PR!

National Public Relations is a PR firm providing exceptional services in terms of giving innovative and impactful solutions to a vast and varied client base. (also, it has great cultural environment, open and positive)

Ahaa! So What?

So Mohawk PR Program Planners had this amazing idea of planning an Agency Field Trip to National Public Relations, Toronto in order to give students a practical and realistic insight into the world of PR. Let me tell you something about our field trip in three major phases.
(This is what I experienced in tandem with conversations with other students!)

Phase 1: Pre-Trip: Being into the Public Relations course over 8 weeks, we had started getting comfortable with the course and had our own imaginary ideas about the agency life. Many of our ideas were fascinating but there was a certain uncertainty prevalent as to what will our workplace be like? Will we be able to cope up? Lost maybe?

Phase 2: The Trip: Accompanied by our Professor and Program Coordinator, Tim Tuck we went to Toronto. When it rains, it pours! It was a rainy day and we were drenched with informational rain at the agency boardroom. National interns turned account executives handling different departments showered their knowledge in terms of their workplace, how they handle deadlines and time-management, how PR is not a 9-5 job, how students could utilize their best skills and create their own space at National.

National gave us an insight into how the work-culture at the agency looks like. They ran us through a day in an intern's life. It was interesting to know how they start their day prioritizing their work and then make sure that they get through all of that work! The account executives had started as entry-level interns trying out in different ways to figure out if they enjoy their work. They have never looked back since then and have been a part of National which understands and encourages work-life balance of its employees.

By the end of question-answer round, students had enjoyed themselves and became so comfortable with the National Team that they almost had a photo session!

Phase 3: Post-Trip: We returned to the bus with a lot of information, answers to our questions and discussions led to other discussions! A lot of us had already planned to apply for the internship program at National! But the uncertainty still prevails, this one is an informed uncertainty, where we have the options open to us but are uncertain as to which one would be the best for us and enjoyable as well! Students will be students and we will always be curious and doubtful until we take the leap and are actually put into the situation!
Jokes apart, I personally feel that such trips are quite useful for us and provide a realistic foundation to our dreams...
