Working Remotely, While Learning How to Work Remotely!

You are probably reading the title and are a little confused - let me explain. Before the start of this program, I was just working in the office and was busy running, around with, and just having to manage my emails as my communication platform. As an international Market Specialist, my job was primarily based on face-to-face communication, email and telecommunication so I never really had the opportunity to heavily engage in social media or other communication platforms.

However, as the pandemic came upon us, so did all the challenges of stay up-to-date with communication channels, especially social media. As part of my remote work criteria, we were now expected to heavily emphasize what we do on a regular basis, but just this time it had to be with the engagement of social media, webinars, and even graphic design content. These things were something I otherwise did not dig too deep in.

A couple months of everyone scatting around trying to find their niche had passed, and like a god-sent gift, came this program.

Going into some of the classes and hearing the requirements were like music to my ear. Particularly, Social Media and Digital Communication, Graphic Design and Media Relations. They were touching on exactly what I needed to master in order to excel in my day-to-day job. These programs have really allowed me to take those baby steps in learning exactly what to do to deliver my job in today's digital world. Having to work remotely allowed me to put into practice what I am learning immediately, and it was very satisfying. It is great to see that you are learning and things that are making you better day-by-day. I think it is so important for today's work seekers to learn these skills because truly they are very valuable.

An interesting incident has been a graphic design class. Making posters and infographics has been so therapeutic, especially since I have to extend those skills and apply them to my job - it's like therapy all day long!

As a bonus, I used my speedy InDesign skills to create the graphic content for this post. Not show off (maybe a little), but it took me just a couple of minutes.

It's amazing to think that we are not even done the first semester and I have learned so much. Not to be cliche, but I truly look forward to the rest of the semester and the following year because I know I will be expanding on essential skills that I am very grateful for.
