How many times a day, do you spend on your cell phone, the Internet, or watching television? One, two, five, 10? How do you know, how much is too much? If you’re over the age of two and actively participate and use these devices for more than two hours, than the answer is yes.
Texting, receiving email while at lunch, during a meeting, in class or even watching a movie at the theatres has become a norm in society. It is our personal choice and if we choose not to use it, we crave it and it becomes an addiction.
We all might use excuses such as, it’s a form of multi-tasking, what if someone needs me and it’s important? But what you all need to know is our brain can only handle one thing at a time, so if your texting and driving, don’t! You’re more likely to get into an accident.

Although our brain is addicted to receive new information at any time, its vital to know that if we are investing more time on our “crackberry’s” we are potentially losing less focus on things around us, we become less interesting to family and friends and we are inhibiting our creative thinking.
With the development of new and faster technology, we are all going to find that the blackberry nation has a problem and soon we will discover when we have children, they will be using it more than we did at our age.
What options do we have to help limit the time we spend on these devices? I would suggest taking baby steps. Creating a worldwide event like Earth Hour, where instead of shutting off power for an hour, we shut off our phones. I know what you’re thinking; I can’t do that. But we all need to help ourselves before it's too late! We need time to play, time away from these machines and find ways to manage technology around us or we all are doomed!
