Gift of Communication

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) invited Mohawk PR students to be able to give back to the community by helping with the annual Gift of Communication event.  This event is where 7 non-profit organizations gather with IABC  members and PR students to come up with a communication plan.

This event has been by far one of the best events I have been to.  The event not only helps the organization but I found that it truly helped me as well.  You learn so many things in school but it is great to be able to use the skills to help someone else.  As well, since there are IABC members sitting at the table you can hear ideas from people who have been in the industry for a while and have had many experiences.  For the three hours of the event I was continuously learning and applying my knowledge to try and help an organization.

This went beyond the classroom and allowed you to work with actual clients and organizations.  Working with clients and organizations is very different then writing an assignment for a professor.  This event was voluntary but I would highly recommend contributing to this amazing event.  Give something back to the community while learning valuable skills.

College is what you make it and the Post Grad PR programs gives everyone the opportunity to volunteer and get involved in the community.  The Gift of Communication is definitely something to get involved in.  Amazingly this event started in Hamilton but it has spread to many other communities.  It is always nice to give back and immerse yourself in the giving culture.   I would highly recommend getting involved with the Gift of Communication.  Give back to the community and share the knowledge you have learned.
