Is new technology creating jobs or taking jobs?

Two weeks ago, we got the privilege to go to Toronto to visit two agencies and the printing press. While we were visiting the printing press a few things came to my mind. I thought about all the effort put into making one book, how enhanced the machines are and what if the machines became more enhanced?

What I mean by this is, if machines in factories keep becoming enhanced in technology it could take away many jobs. Technology is a great benefit to some jobs like public relations but it could possibly take the jobs of factory workers.

For public relations, the new apps, technology deceives and communication opportunities is a great benefit to the industry. It has made it easier to connect with people in the industry and created many jobs for people in public relations.

New technology though is not a benefit to factory workers. Last summer I worked at Honda Canada Manufacturing on the assemble line. As I was there, there were many new machines getting put in to make the employees jobs easier and less hard on their bodies. It is a good thing the machines helped to make the factory employees work easier, but so many machines were getting brought in we didn’t need all the man power we once had. People had to start getting sent to different zones because they were no longer needed in their current one. Also, when we were at the printing press, our tour guide was explaining how one machine was getting replaced so workers didn’t have to do a certain job anymore. In a way this benefited some employees but what happens if one day the machines do everything and we don’t need any factory workers?

Overall, new technology has become a great benefit for some people in their careers, like public relations, but for some people new technology could take away their jobs. Technology will keep advancing everyday so is it taking away jobs or creating jobs?
